Traci Chen
Principal Lawyer
GROWING UP
Traci Chen is a law graduate from Flinders University. Inspired by her parents who migrated from China to Australia, she developed a deep interest in migration law. Her parents' sacrifice of leaving their comfortable lives in China to move to a country where they could not speak the language had a significant impact on her. Traci's early life was shaped by these experiences, instilling in her a deep understanding of the challenges and sacrifices immigrants face.
EDUCATION
After high school, Traci Chen decided to study at Flinders University, attracted by the institution's cultural diversity, strong female presence among staff, and the unique offering of Practical Legal Training as part of the degree. The diversity of her peers at Flinders provided her with a global perspective and insights into different walks of life, which she valued greatly. Early in her studies, Traci chose to specialize in Migration Law, a decision driven by her own experiences as a migrant. She immersed herself in her studies and took every opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in migration law
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
While still studying, Traci worked as a law clerk at Doconade Adelaide Lawyers, a boutique law firm specializing in migration. After graduating, she became a solicitor at Nevile & Co Commercial Lawyers in Melbourne, where she continued to work in the field of migration law, an area close to her heart
BUILDING HER BUSINESS
Traci Chen is currently the CEO of Maison Chen Law Group, where she focuses on migration law. In response to the significant changes in Australian migration laws and policies, which have become increasingly complex and dynamic, Traci leverages her social media platforms to keep potential migrants up-to-date. She believes that this approach makes the information more accessible, approachable, and understandable, especially for the younger generation2. In 2022, Australia began inviting a significantly larger number of individuals for permanent residency, with the number rising from a few thousand to tens of thousands
IN 2022
Traci brought attention to the 2022-23 Migration Program introduced at the end of 2022. This program aims to make more permanent visas available, easing the application process for migrants and potentially boosting Australia's economic growth. This includes providing 142,400 residency places for skills-based migrants to help make the economy more productive and fill skill gaps, especially outside of major cities, and 52,500 places for families, predominantly via partner visas, to reunite families
IN 2023 AND BEYOND
Traci Chen's goal is to help individuals achieve their dream of coming to Australia, and she is committed to making the migration process more manageable and less confusing. Despite the challenges of immigration, Traci believes that the Australian Dream is very much alive and within reach for many
