Mari Chaffey-Jones
Migration Lawyer
EDUCATION
I have a Bachelor of Laws (Distinction) from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from College of Law and in the final year of my Diploma of Spanish.
PROFESSIONAL LIFE
Whilst living and studying in Argentina, I was given the opportunity to intern with Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales, whereby I assisted in the litigation of several cases on behalf of the los desaparecidos from the 1976 Argentine Dirty War. This experience ignited my passion for social justice and culture as well as reiterated the importance of advocating for human rights and immigration.
I have worked in migration for 3 years, starting as a paralegal whilst completing my bachelor. I have previously worked in criminal law briefly as well and enjoy working on character matters where both areas of my experience intersect.
I have previously worked alongside several employers, including ASX 200 companies to assist with overseas talent migration through streamlined employer nominated visas. I also have experience and thoroughly enjoy working with general skilled migration visas, character matters and partner visas.
Hobbies
I can be found running absurd distances for fun, in your local Spanish class or surfing with my dogs.
I am always open to hiking and day trip recommendations and will take on any adrenaline-inducing experiences!
Languages
English and a little bit of Spanish.
What Motivates you?
I am incredibly dedicated to helping others achieve a fair opportunity to make Australia their home and my motivation to do so is deeply rooted in my passion for helping others, reuniting families and promoting diversity and inclusion.
